New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct board exams for private candidates starting August 16 and will announce the results shortly thereafter.

The CBSE said on Wednesday that the board would conduct private category examinations for students on August 1 and September 2021. The results will be announced in the shortest possible time so that they do not face any difficulty in getting admission in higher education.

Private candidates are those who were previously regular students with CBSE but failed in the exams and were looking to improve their scores. The CBSE said the policy has been formulated earlier and the work is being done as per the report to the Supreme Court.

Board exams have been canceled this year amid a coronavirus epidemic. The Union Ministry of Education had told the Supreme Court that the CBSE would announce the results for regular students by July 31 on the basis of the mid-July assessment.

The CBSE board results will be based on the 30:30:40 model, in which schools will be assigned a large part of the exercise based on internal assessment, experimental and project works. While in class 10 and 11 student performance will be given 30% weight each, while in class 12 performance will get 40% weightage.

The CBSE on Wednesday also announced by the end of July the deadline for completing the board’s result process for its thousands of affiliated schools and the completion of Marcus’s mediation.

The move came at a time when schools were struggling to cope with stricter deadlines between signage and moderation errors, as warned earlier by the board.
